A LITTLE ABOUT RAA ATOLL
Raa Atoll is home to a total of 88 islands, 15 of which are inhabited, and is one of the northern most visited atolls in the Maldives, separated from neighbouring Baa Atoll by the 5 kilometre wide Hani Kandu Canal. Raa Atoll is also home to several reknowed luxury hotels, namely the 5* Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa, 5* Kudafushi Resort & Spa and the ultra luxurious 5* Joali Maldives.
Popular activities in this atoll are snokerling, diving, watersports, dolphin cruises and fishing trips, all accentuated by Raa Atoll's unique topographical and geographical features which make it rich and diverse in marine life. The outer ridge of the atoll is deep while the inner islands are on shallower plateaus, making conditions uniquely favourable for the procreation of corals and fish. The western ridge of the atoll also lies close to one of the best deep water fishing sites in Maldives and makes it an excellent place to see both reef and pelagic fish. The most visitors also note that the fish populations are thriving in the atoll and observed that the house reefs of the islands themselves, especially Furaveri’s, are some of the finest, most accessible dive sites in the area.
This goes without saying that the beaches in this region of the Maldives are as excellent as the diving and underwater experiences. It is home to a wonderful collection of uninhabited and unexplored islands and gives travelers fantastic opportunities for unforgettable moments on the beach.
Raa Atoll finds itself 45 minutes by seaplane from Velana International Airport (MLE) in Malé.
